I'm super excited to dive into the mindset of a godly woman. Last week, we gained insight into the character of the Proverbs 31 woman, and this week, we will take a closer look at how she thinks. It's undeniable that the Proverbs 31 woman does not rely solely on her own abilities; she truly seeks wisdom from the Lord. How do we come to this conclusion? In my opinion, it’s rare, if not humanly impossible, to excel in all areas at the same time. I'm sure you've heard the saying, "You can have it all, just not all at the same time," because to truly excel in one area, you often have to sacrifice in another.
Her superpower is confirmed in Proverbs 31:29 (KJV), which states, "Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all." Her abilities far exceed those of other women because she is connected to the source. What’s even more compelling is that she doesn't appear to be sacrificing much at all. I guess she is sacrificing herself, but I'm not even sure that truly counts as a sacrifice, because her cup runneth over. She seems to give from a place of fullness rather than depletion or self-abandonment. She is generous with her time, energy, resources, love, talent, and wisdom.
I need a moment to reflect and think: Am I as generous? Perhaps a better question is: How can I be intentional about adding value to the lives of others moving forward?
I don’t know about you, but I ask the Lord daily to renew my mindset. I want my thoughts to be aligned with the mind of Christ. Jesus put everyone above Himself and truly came to serve. He had every right to come to rule and reign as He is God Almighty, but He chose to be a humble servant. What a beautiful God we serve!
What I admire about the Proverbs 31 woman is that she, being Christ-like, also focuses on serving others. We live in a day and age where many people are selfish. It’s all about doing what is best for oneself, often without regard for who might be hurt in the process. I’m not speaking from a judgmental place; I, too, can be selfish at times. Thankfully, the Lord is renewing my mind and transforming my heart. I pray that my future actions will reflect this transformation.
Let’s dig a little deeper to understand why the Proverbs 31 woman has such a powerful mindset. The first thing that stands out to me is her intention regarding her thoughts, feelings, and actions. Proverbs 31:11-12 (KJV) states, “The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall not have need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”
Clearly, she is intentional about how she treats her husband. Marriage can be challenging because spouses do not always agree, and some days they may not even like each other. After years of marriage, it can be difficult to keep the spark alive. However, it’s evident that the Proverbs 31 woman has made a conscious decision to treat her husband well, regardless of the season they are in or the challenges they may face. To be clear, we are discussing a healthy marriage. I'm not encouraging anyone to stay in an abusive relationship.
We also notice that she is intentional in her business affairs, how she treats others, how she speaks, and how she takes care of her household. We read that she considers a field and buys it; she opens her mouth with wisdom, reaches out her hands to the needy, and looks well to the ways of her household.
To accomplish all these tasks effectively, I believe she has a strategy. She carefully plans ahead to ensure a desired outcome. The Bible describes her as a virtuous woman, whose value is far above rubies. I looked up "virtuous," and it is defined as having or showing high moral standards. This woman is not merely winging it and hoping things will fall into place. Instead, she seems clear about her mission, vision, and purpose, which comes from God and aligns with His will. She knows her assignment and is intentionally pursuing it with excellence.
As believers, our purpose is found in Ephesians 2:8-10 (KJV), which states: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
God fulfilled His mission when Jesus died on the cross and rose on the third day. His vision is that no one would perish; He desires for all to be saved. His purpose for our lives is to be created in Christ Jesus to do good works.
After reading Proverbs 31, I believe that when we choose to live a life aligned with God's will, we fulfill our purpose. The Proverbs 31 woman embodies the mind and heart of Christ. She is loving, patient, kind, compassionate, and intelligent. My question is: How did she manage to consistently show up as a loving wife, a nurturing mother, an entrepreneur, and an impactful figure in her community?
She must be the queen of time management, right? Haha. Juggling all those responsibilities with ease, elegance, grace, and excellence is unbelievable. I’ve had to learn a thing or two about time management during this season of my life as being a stay-at-home mom. After fourteen years of being a mom to one, I was overjoyed to welcome twins in July 2022. However, once we settled in at home from the hospital, I was consumed with fear and anxiety. I didn’t know how I would manage, but God was with us every step of the way. Even though I felt far from Him at the time, He was not far from me. He provided guidance and taught me how to create a schedule that works best for our family.
The Lord has been showing me the importance of stewardship. Do I fall short? Yes, every single day. But I have learned to pause, reflect, learn, and try again.
I believe that having a godly mindset means understanding that you don't have to have everything figured out because you know the One who does. He is the one who will direct our paths if we submit to Him. Each day we open our eyes, we are granted another opportunity to try again and do better this time around. We can glean so much from the Proverbs 31 woman, and I pray that by the end of this series, you will have several life-changing insights that you can implement in your daily life.
Similar to the Proverbs 31 woman, let’s be intentional, seek God for strategy in all that we do, and wisely steward all the blessings He has placed in our hands.
LET’S PRAY
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for blessing us with a sound mind. Please forgive us for the times we have tried to handle things on our own without seeking your guidance. We ask that you grant us wisdom as we move forward and align our thoughts with your thoughts, Lord Jesus. Fill us with your love, peace, and joy so that our cups may overflow and bless those around us. Give us a servant's heart and teach us humility, so that we may reflect you. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
