This is part four of the You Glow Girl series. I want to keep this short, sweet, and to the point. If you haven’t already, please check out parts 1, 2, and 3 before reading this. I hope you have enjoyed this series so far and that you are experiencing God's presence in a deeper way.

In the previous posts, we explored a godly woman’s character and mindset, inspired by the Proverbs 31 woman, as well as the godly wisdom found in the book of Ruth. Now, we will wrap up this series by looking at our purpose and calling.

As someone who is fairly new to the faith, I am still learning and seeking God for a deeper understanding of how to walk in my purpose, calling, and assignments. Unfortunately, I don’t have all the answers yet, but I would like to share a few revelations that I believe the Holy Spirit has revealed to me through Scripture and the insights of others.

Before we dive into our purpose and calling as Christians, let’s first define the difference between the two. Our purpose can be understood as the overall reason for our existence; it is the reason why we are here. Isaiah 43:7 states, “Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory; I have formed him; yea, I have made him.”

Our calling, on the other hand is how we live out our purpose. Our purpose is universal, whereas our calling is unique and expressed through our individual gifts and talents.

As believers we know that our ultimate purpose is to glorify God in all that we do. We are to love God with our whole being and to love others as ourselves. Often how that is expressed is through our gifts and talents. 1 Peter 4:10-11 states “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.”

As I mentioned earlier, I am seeking God’s guidance on how to walk in my calling. I believe this blog is one of my assignments, and I am striving to be obedient and a faithful steward of it. I also wanted to seek godly wisdom from powerful women of faith who are confidently living out their callings and are certain of their assignments. In a Facebook group I’m a part of, I asked the following questions:

For those of you who are walking in your God-given calling or assignment, I’m curious to know:

1. How did God reveal your calling to you?

2. What were some of the initial challenges you faced?

3. What advice would you give to someone who is not yet walking in their calling or is just starting out?

I want to respect their privacy, as I didn’t ask for permission to share their personal stories. However, I would like to share my overall takeaways from their responses, as I found them extremely enlightening and helpful.

Many people shared their struggles with discovering their calling, and I can really relate to that! Some expressed how they sought God for answers through prayer and fasting, and He was faithful in responding. Others shared experiences of initially choosing one path, only to find that God had other plans and redirected them. As it says in Romans 8:28, “And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” It’s encouraging to know that even if we take a wrong turn or go down a path not meant for us, He can turn it around for our good.

Many of the women talked about feeling a pull toward their calling, sensing it was what they were meant to do. Some noted that others confirmed their gifts, which served as a sign to walk in them. One particular response stood out to me: the woman mentioned that she doesn’t view “calling” in the traditional sense. She believes our calling is simply our “yes” to God. She pointed out that David didn’t make himself king; he just said “yes,” and Esther didn’t make herself queen; she also simply said “yes.” She believes that God calls us to something and all He wants is our “yes,” and then He will take care of the rest.

I loved her perspective because it’s so easy to get caught up in trying to figure out what God wants us to do and how to go about it. I felt particularly fearful about starting this blog because I didn’t want to enter into something God hadn’t called me to, and I was uncertain about how to find clarity. I also wanted to avoid being disobedient out of fear. We often try to control everything when God is simply asking for our “yes.”

So, what is God calling you to in this season of your life? Will you give Him your "yes"? I hope you have gained some insight into the godly woman God is calling you to be. We live in a dark world, and God wants us to shine our lights by living lives that glorify Him, walking in our calling, and ultimately advancing His kingdom by reflecting Christ. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Please share in the comments any revelations God has given you about how to live in your purpose and walk in your calling. As I've said in previous posts "Sis, let's grow together and glow together." I pray that this series has encouraged and empowered you.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father,

Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are Your workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that You have prepared in advance for us to walk in. We ask that You reveal to us what You are calling us to in this season and increase our faith and boldness to pursue it. Thank You, Lord, for all our gifts and talents. Give us a heart to serve and bless others, and help us to glorify You in all that we do. In Jesus's mighty name, Amen.
